Sustainability

We make great efforts to create an eco and ocean-friendly event!

Ocean conservation is woven into the fabric of Rock The Ocean’s Tortuga Music Festival.

  • Tortuga started the first cause-based, large-scale music festival solely focused on ocean conservation.
  • Tortuga was the first major music festival to BAN plastic water bottles.
  • Tortuga implemented a single-use, plastic service ware ban across the site – meaning no plastic straws, plates, cups, cutlery, etc.
  • Tortuga hosts Rock The Ocean’s Conservation Village that has included over 100 nonprofit organizations at our event to educate our fans on ocean conservation.
  • Tortuga implemented food & beverage guidelines that require food vendors to serve ONLY antibiotic-free meats; responsibly and sustainably-sourced seafood; and locally-grown and organic foods whenever possible.
  • Tortuga implemented a comprehensive recycling & composting program that includes cans, paper, plastic, wood and even cigarette butts. All of this has diverted over 600 tons of waste from the landfill!
  • Tortuga implemented donation programs to allocate surplus food & supplies to local charity-based organizations. Even our lettuce goes to feed the sea turtles!
  • Tortuga fans have planted 24,500 sea oats on the festival site to protect & preserve the natural habitat and help restore endangered sea oats in the area.
  • Rock the Ocean hosts monthly beach and reef cleanups in the area to continue our efforts throughout the year.
  • Tortuga fans have helped raise over $4 million in funding for ocean conservation initiatives!
